IEEE RAS Portal: FireFighting I
About This Competition
Portal: FireFighting is the annual IEEE RAS robotics competition run by the IEEE RAS chapter at the University of Jordan Student Branch, giving Jordanian youth a local arena to design and build their own firefighting robot prototypes. Competing as team Electrone X with my colleague Abdullah Abu Dabaseh, we built our robots from scratch and finished 4th overall, and were also awarded the Best Design Award for the mechanical design and the Clean Sheet Award for faultless runs.
Highlights
- Finished 4th overall in the IEEE RAS Portal: FireFighting competition, held on 29 June 2019 at the University of Jordan.
- Won the Best Design Award for the mechanical design of the robot, and the Clean Sheet Award for completing the runs without faults.
- Competed as team Electrone X with my colleague Abdullah Abu Dabaseh, each of us building and running a robot of our own design.
- Built the robots from scratch on a custom four-wheel chassis, with microcontroller-driven motors and a servo, a motor-driven fan to put out the flame, and laser-cut acrylic and 3D-printed parts.
- Certificates signed by Prof. Lutfi Al-Sharif, IEEE RAS Jordan Chapter Chairman, and Omar Turkmani, IEEE JU RAS Chairman.
- Placed 3rd with the same colleague in the previous Portal: Firefighting competition, held in October 2018.
